im not sure i can follow those instructions being unfamiliar with editing the registry, but I will try. It is just the DVD that skips, not CDs to my knowledge. Is this a known problem with these DVD roms? What is the problem exactly?

Hardly any DVD's play all the way through without skipping on my inspiron 9100. It's definitely not a problem with the discs because they work fine on other players. The DVD player is an NEC DVD+RW ND6100A Are there known issues...

so why doesnt booting from a USB key work? It said there is no bootable option in the table or something..

After an hour or so of Doom3, my GPU temp is around 54 celcius (cant remember the CPU). I was thinking of OCing the GPU a bit using radlinker, but am wondering at what point the temp becomes hazardous. Thanks!

did you OC your card with Radlinker or ATI tools? What is a safe temp for it?

I also had the same issue and the website drivers fixed it. Caused a lot of unnecessary stress..

How much can you safely overclock this card with the omega drivers?
