if you create a ghost floppy with USB DOS drivers that support some USB hard drives. it will work I'm using Ghost 2003 with my Sager 5620.. to backup to cheapo USB home brew drive enclosure.
Caveo makes a nice solution its pricey though. http://www.caveo.com/products/anti-theft.htm its got encryption, an alarm and it renders the laptop unusable even if you remove the PCMCIA card..
