hey, again I had the same problem with Aspire 5600 did everything that you did, nothing worked until I checked that on/off switch it was broken (stuck in backlight off position). There was no way i could fix it so i just disconnected it...
It might be late or stupid but... There is a pin that turns off the backlight when the notebook is closed - it might be broken. Did you check that?
