If all you're going to do is office apps either config will do. The most powerfull over all is the ZD8000. In either case the amount of memory and HD speed are going to be the real factors.
Your issue is definitely hardware related so getting an external sound card should fix your problem. I'd get the card and verify the return policy - if in the unlikely event that the card don't work - just return it.
