I know this is off...
Dont think you'll be seeing any inspiron with that configuration in the near future. Its clear to me dell has decided that if you want a gaming platform buy and XPS.
I saw that earlier today. I was wondering how long it had been there. Its a 700 dollar option. I wish dell would kill the dual 8700s too. That way in the future people would get 880s as a replacement for the 8700.
gotta say that ive had several laptops ranging in size and in general you shouldnt step up to 17" until you are really wanting to be a DTR. <15" is better for laying on the couch and using etc.
Ive got one too and have to agree with pretty much everything you said. The laptop can be a real powerhouse. The power brick is the only thing that really annoys me about the laptop. Mine doesn't have the BR though. Who do you work...
But you will also be without a good laptop to game in the mean time. Tech is constantly changing. I say go for it now. If the upgrade comes within your return period. Just return and rebuy.
I actually looked on ebay the other day and didn't see any spare battery or power supply for the m1730. I think its just so new that not much has hit the net in the way of stuff like that.
