I had the same issue... Im on a dv7-1174ca.... The cpu is a Intel Core 2 Duo ... What you could do (works for me; makes the cpu speed 2Ghz even when idle'ing...) is: Under device manager, system devices, uninstall ACPI Fixed Feature...
its a locked motherboard.... press hard on the top right hand side right under the lcd.. some times it works... i saw it on a blog... search for nc6000 lockup on google and ull find it...
w00t! i think theres no point to upgrade... just the hdd and memory ... its risky to upgrade the processor if u do have fun with it!
max res output is 2048x1536... for the lcd thats built on the laptop is 1024x768...
