I had that problem, and an alienware dude put a new fan on it and it solved the problem. It didn't have any dust on it, so I assume that the thermal paste fried after several months of use.

My 5500 played FarCry perfectly, and I have the 9600.

Have you sent one out to a 5500 owner yet? If not, I guess I would try it out.

That didn't help mine, but what did was putting on new thermal paste. I went from my lappie shutting off after being on longer than 20 min to good as new.

When will it be tested out on a 5500?
