Forgot that I had tweaked the 8890's services for optimum performance. After doing the same on the 9750, it's 25% faster than the 8890. Not what I'd hoped for but better. Interestingly, just changing the power scheme to "Always...
Geez, I just compared the 9750 to my 8890 compiling a large project. The 8890 was slightly faster, by milliseconds. Oh well at least it's a new machine.

I think folks at PCT are swamped right now... If you get the machine "naked", it comes with drivers for all the hardware. If you've done lots of OS installs, you shouldn't have trouble. If you haven't you may be better off...

Boy, the desert is very hard use for a commercial laptop. You may want to consider "ruggedized" versions. NextCom, for example, has some models you may want to consider. http://www.nextcomputing.com/products.htm
