I can agree to a certain degree about netbooks being a gimmick. For me, I would either use a normal laptop or just get a smartphone. Honestly, what's the big diff between 7" screen and a 3" smartphone screen?
1) Keep the exhaust assembly/fan clean of dust either through complete disassembly/compressed air (about every month).
2) Use a cooling mat (numerous brands)
Can you check the white sticker on the bottom? I checked the dv6000 and it doesn't have a fingerprint reader. (The model on the lcd frame is the general series)
What I'm trying to do is find the manual of a model with a fingerprint...
Are the Asus's more powerful? Yes. Is that power worth $150-$200 more? IMO, no. I mean, if you're really concerned about gaming...then you might consider getting the Asus, but as of right now the 8400m in the HP should be able to game...

Install Slysoft Any-DVD...it'll get rid of any blu-ray protections (it's perfectly legal software). It costs money but is totally worth paying for/pirating (although the 2nd option IS illegal).
It looks similar to what my screen looks like when the video card/driver crashes...the first thing to try would be reinstalling the video driver...unless you get distortions when its in the bios.
