My 1.7 GHz Dothan idles at around 53-54 as well.
Mine idles around 53-54 C. Never seen it get above 64 C., even during gaming/benchmarking. Edit: It's a Dothan 1.7, by the way (and ASUS, M6BNe, of course).
Try MP3Gain. It works great for MP3's. Doesn't do .WAV's, though.

Try typing "lang=us" (without the quotes) at the boot prompt.
