putting a battery next to anything that produces 120+ deg temps is not a good idea. Unless you have your CPU cooled to the point that its only producing temps of 70 deg i would think about removing the battery.

dont worry about "overcharging"... Taking the battery out will prolong the battery life because as you stated the heat wont drain the life span of the battery. Careful about getting dusk and gunk inside the battery cavity.
how about updating a intel 2200 when the new super-g internals come out?
my advice is put the battery in the frig... until you need to go mobile. EDIT* I think your suppose to leave the battery at 60% charge when not using it for extended time.
most companys have a 1 year warranty on batteries. I have never heard of 3, thats crazy. Most batteries have 400 charge cycles per life. If you dont use a battery after 3 years it has lost about 25% of the 100% that can be charged. ...

Consumer reports doesnt rate IBM very reliable... according to CR Apple Toshiba Sony IBM
7K60 is said to be the best 7200/60GB hard drive...
