I use PopTray.. which checks email for me and notifies me when I get email. It's free, powerful, (filters/spam/rules), and yeah.. don't mean to bash this LED feature, but I don't see its point.
So wait.. the light on the top of the screen, when the lid is closed, flashes on new mail? Even when the thing is off? How the heck would that work? Well, not when it's off.. but when it's standby I guess..
