If you go to college (high school maybe) you can get the M60 at quite a discount. I'm getting my M60 with some good specs (1.6ghz, 7200rpm hardrive, dvd-rom/cd-rw) for around $2,800. Just don't buy your RAM through Dell, buy that...
I'm in the same boat, sort of. Although I would benefit from a full fledged P4 (for 3d rendering work), the battery life would suck, and most importantly, the laptop would be bulky and heavy. Not that there's a big problem with that,...
For what you are going to be using the computer for, a pentium-M will be just fine. You aren't going to need a full fledged desktop processor since you aren't running powerful software like photoshop or 3dsmax. Most important for you...
The ODM for the Voodoo M355 is Compal. I believe they are a company based out of Taiwan. The also make the Voodoo M700 (which is the hypersonic ZX7, 4760, etc.).

That's a good point. I think the idea behind the original post is that yes, some people would definatly benefit from the use of a laptop at college, but a blanket statement that everyone needs a laptop is perposterous.

Alright! What to do plan on using it for? Why the Quadro over the Geforce... I'm seriously considering this computer for college as well... I'd rather have the power of the P4, but I don't want the weight... I'd be intereseted in how...
