I actually do it both ways. You could remove the fans and clean them but anything else and you probably have OCD and too much time on your hands......

You really shouldn't need to open it to clean it. I blow out my fans with compressed air and have done so for almost a year, when I had some warranty repair work done and the system was opened it looked brand new so some compressed air...
