[quote=violetdream]Sager tech support treated me awful as well. I was told by Laura at PCTorque that they don't outsource their tech support, I guess they just hire forgien guys who are physically located in this country though?
If you are having trouble with them contact PCtorque and give them the name of the person you were dealing with. QUOTE]
I had reason to contact Sager directly several times in the past few months.
In both Sales and Tech Support I spoke...
Please remember that there are two versions of WIN 95.
By the way, I have WIN98se successfully installed and running on a 486-DX100 with 500 mg hard drive.
If you can spare the extra drive space, 98se may be a better bet.
Hope this helps

If you cache BIOS, it is much faster than reading from EPROM each time.
THis is what the setting are: Membase=640, Ext=1047552, Shadow=64, Reserved=320, Cache (ext)=512
What changes do you suggest, if any?
Here is some stuff from SISSandra..... does this shed light on the performance issue? I've not used this software before and am unsure of it's reliability and interpretation of the data.

Thank you for this..... I've had other laptops, most recently a Gateway 9150, as well as desktops.... and have never heard this kind of consistent sound at shutdown. I had not connected that the sound could be related to the hard drive.
THis system has only one hard drive, and as long as the PING sound on shutdown does not indicate a problem, I'll just enjoy it's song.
The drive is a TOSHIBA MK4019GAX [Hard drive] (40.01 GB) -- drive 0, s/n 23330934A, rev...
All I did the first couple of days was download and install updates... windows, mcafee, zonealarm, ad-aware, spybot and just a few apps -dtp, phtoedit, OpenOffice. So, all that stuff is up to date.
It come with WIN XP Pro installed, FAT 32. I assume the seller did a format and fresh install just before shipping.
ATI driver 184.108.40.20618
So that's the basics.
Hiya all, again
THis 8887, P2.4, 1 gig RAM, WIN XP Pro, give an audible PING sound as the final effort of shutdown. THis has been consistent since I first got this used system a few weeks ago.
Is this sound customary?
If not, any idea what might be causing it and whether or not it should be a cause for concern?
I got a used 8887 P2.4, 1 gig RAM, XP Pro.
THis system runs almost as slowly as my AMD 600, 512 megs RAM, WIN 98se
Nowhere near the performance gains I thought a newer system would bring.
I did download SISANDRA, after reading many threads here, but am unsure how to decipher the six pages of info I got.
Is there someone here willing to look at the data and see if it provides a slow performance clue?
My appreciation and thanks in advance.
