I have fresh install of WinXP. When I click Star->Turn off, i only get 3 options: Standby, Turn off, Restart. On the keyboard, there is only Standby button (F1), I dont see hibernate anywhere?!!
Just as the title says, need DVD drive that'll work in E6400. Doesnt have to be a burner.
Also,try running BIOS Diagnostic (Press F12 when booting and huge DELL logo appears). If diagnostics find nothing, then back up your hdd, reformat partition and do clean WXP install.
this IS a weird problem. Technically, it shouldnt make any difference (in terms of GPU/CPU usage) where you're outputting the signal (ext monitor or internal LCD). the only thing i can think of is that's the effect of DRM those MS...
if the HDD light doesnt blink repeatedly (e.g. not booting), most likely the mainboard is dead. otherwise its the video card. take it to a repair shop. some of the smaller shops provide free quotes. could be something as simple as blown...
on craiglist u can usually find some good tech's that can fix this cheap. i've seen DC jack repair advertised for like $25.
