The main reason I can see to get a 17" is to have a bigger and better screen. The biggest and best screen is the Sony Xbrite WUXGA of the A series. Therefore that is the best 17" laptop. Steve

My A270 also will show a battery loss after shutdown. I'm not sure if it is a meter problem or an actual drain. I get about the same battery life (1.45-2.0) as you do, but it doesn't hugely worry me. I didn't get for the battery...
