eBay will have the connector you need. If you don't want to go that route, pay a repair shop to do it for you. Or, if a new motherboard can be had for cheap, just replace it.

Without knowing that app. I would think 1. Remove the app, 2. Run anti virus, 3. Set to a previous known good restore point within Windows.

Yeah Dell's biggest problem is not being able to effectively communicate what can/will happen. 100 different reps will say 100 different things, that's why I went for the refund. I would have no problem coming back to Dell, but only...
