Its possible - the error could also be related to the drivers with the 2.6.x kernel.

So buy one. This forums job is not to convince you one way or the other. I would however read the overheating threads in the DELL forum first.

Indeed thats true - the problem does lie with the ati drivers - if I didnt use 3d I would purely use the vesa dri drivers ... but I cannot kick my RTCW habit

Tezz, You need to use the desktop 9600 linux drivers.
