The middle port on the camera seems to only download images to the laptop. There is a function to take a picture but it does not show the image before activating the camera shutter. A good try though.

I did not know if that would work so I did not look for a cable like that. Are you saying that is the way to go? I want to use the laptop as a substitute for the camera's LCD screen to focus the image during a macro (very close up)...

I have a Canon Powershot G5 and I am trying to connect this to my Sony Laptop. The camera uses a 3.5mm AV cable but I am unsure where to plug into the laptop. In the yellow female port on the back? And I do not know what cable to use....
