A customs charge, or duty, is not the same as taxes. My point, which you missed entirely in favour of this pissing contest of yours, was that the 15% originally quoted by dstrukt (who was also being helpful) applies only to provinces...

Just to clarify what dstrukt said, you only pay the 15% charge in Ontario (8% PST + 7% GST); in other provinces you pay what taxes you are normally charged on goods (which may or may not total 15%, depending on where in Canada you are)....

Cool, thanks for that info Robert. Sounds pretty much like the situation here in Canada where we're charged taxes on items coming from the U.S. but no duty (tax for me is 15%, so not much better than VAT). I think my course of action...
