With my 8890 (and I believe that it's the same for the 5680), the burner will only burn at 1x if the media is RW (2x for R).

I use media that I buy from a computer show, I don't even know who makes it. I was concerned when I first bought them, because I heard it mattered, but I don't think it does, just as long as you buy -R and not +R. -- Reggie
