I tried placing the cooler on my lap in bed. Seems to work find, I didn't really have a problem with it.

Bearing noise? I'm not exactly sure what you mean. All I really hear is the fan noise, not much of anything else...
I haven't tried it on my lap or in bed yet, it mainly stays on my desk (no school yet until September). I'll try placing it on my lap and report back here.
As you can see, the laptop is a bit too wide for the cooler. But since the feet of the laptop don't actually rest on the cooler, this is not a problem! The laptop is actually resting on the rubber feet that flip up on the cooler. Here...

If there is a BIOS update available for your model, it should be on the Toshiba website under the customer / product support page, it's easy to find. You can usually flash the BIOS from Windows these days, without having to boot from...
