Video encoding on a Macbook performs just as well as a Macbook Pro, granted you don't have alot of 3D materials. As its mostly CPU driven rather than the video GPU.

What do you plan on doing with the macbook? You can also look at NeoOffice. Office 2008 is just about out, pick that up if you need to do alot of office related files.
