I have a question for those saying to wait. Is the difference between Merom and the current line of chips as drastic as the difference between Conroe and the Pentium D procs? From what I've seen Merom isn't as drastic of an improvement....

Unless you're doing work in Photoshop or other image/video/audio editting programs or gaming, the difference between 1GB and 2GB probably won't be as striking.
I'd order now. The M1710 is Merom compatible, so even if you decide to upgrade you'll be okay. Just buy the Merom chip and sell your old one. Besides, based on the price of the 2.33GHz chip, I wouldn't be surprised if Dell offered Merom...
