I think the biggest advantage of PCI-E is the fact that supposively you can upgrade the card...while right now it's very difficult to upgrade the graphics on a laptop.
Depends also on ambient temperatures. If you're in a warm room, they're more likely to come on. But when they do, they only run for a few seconds to bring the temp down then they shut off. Even when running, they're not loud or annoying.
I'm not sure what you guys are doing with your audio that I'm not. With either external speakers (not the laptop speakers...actual external speaker systems) or headphones, the realtek sound is just plain inferior to a good USB...
