I don't use Linux unless I have to, but I do like Yellow Dog. If you know RedHat you pretty much know Yellow Dog.

Restore discs are not the same as retail OS discs. Since you got restore discs I think the installer is seeing Panther already installed on the drive and stopping because Panther shouldn't be there, them being Tiger discs and all...
