After all the trials and tribulations with my 8204, there were times when I questioned whether I'd made the right choice with my laptop. The fact that I can (in theory) whack in a Core 2 Duo and a Blu-ray drive has made me very happy...
I've always just used the sort of lens cleaning spray and clothes you get at opticians.
The beta runs perfectly smoothly on the 8204 but because of the lack of drivers, I've gone back to using XP. Once Vista is released circa 2045, the 8204 should run it perferctly...
You'll need a DVI to HDMI converter (it's just a plug, DVI and HDMI are effectively the same standard). You'll also need to get the sound from the laptop to the tv somehow, but that all depends on what audio inputs your computer has...
Interesting to see the HDMI port. I hope they make a HD-DVD or Bluray drive for the 8204...
I can understand your feelings, for the first fortnight after buying any new bit of kit you treat it like tissue paper. The first scratch is always the most painful. As for a solution, the bit of plastic that's damaged is just a cover...

When I had the original Samsung screen in my 8204 I had Atlantic-scale ripples. After replacing it with a Toshiba screen, I haven't got any more rippling than any other laptop...

With laptops there's no point in comparing the components in isolation since, more often than not, they can't be changed around. Saying that a particular graphics card is better than another is no consolaiton when the overall performance...
