Looking to get a new laptop that performs as well as my Dell XPS Gen1 does (it has an ATI9800). I also want a parallel port and serial port for old devices. Can anyone help stear me in the right direction?

Is the 8X DVD recorder that comes with the XPS Gen1 a DL recorder? If not can it be upgraded via firmware to do DL?
