Try reseating the little red nub--make sure the square on the bottom of the nub aligns perfectly with the square u plug it into.
It'd be much better to get an UXGA version--SXGA+ is quite poitnless to me, as you can get that on a smaller 14.1" notebook.
At 2.7 kg this notebook sounds to be quite a bit heavier than the 14" T42. I would go for the latter if you only want an XGA screen.
