Yeah it certainly isn't firewire by the looks of it lol. The woman I spoke to from Acer tech support didn't have a clue.
I emailed the tech support and added a pic, so maybe I will get a better explanation.

Just to update.
I contacted Acer tech support about this, the woman I spoke to didn't really seem to know much of what I was on about though.
She said the port I'm referring to is a dual firewire/USB...
Thanks - So what's probabaly happened is Acer initially decided for the port to be eSATA but then later scrapped the idea and just wired a normal usb port instead?

I was referring to it being a 'charge n play' port or whatever it's called.
I still haven't been able to find out why it looks so different than the other USB ports on my laptop.
