sounds like a flaky dvd drive. try looking for an updated driver. if that doesn't help get acer to replace the drive.
mine started like that a few weeks ago, then it started crashing while video encoding ie CPU working hard, GPU idle. now it crashes just about any time. i run it at 800Mhz all the time now, idle's at 45C

yeah, they're a bit flaky - sometimes when i single click i get a double click. i just use a mouse most of the time
is it in PIO mode? check device manager/secondary IDE channel/advanced - it should be DMA.
sounds like mine, i'll be sending it in for warranty repair just as soon as Acer send me the waybill for shipping. does yours also crash when doing CPU intensive stuff like video encoding? my guess is that the GPU isn't properly...
my dvd drive would work in DMA mode, only the dreadfully slow PIO mode. 1st time i sent it in they replaced the drive but the issue wasn't fixed, so i sent it back, this time they replaced the mainboard and now the dvd drive is fine, but...

was that toshiba a satellite 5105? i replaced my 5105 with acer 8104 too!
