the build quality of the mac will be better. i think it's amazing they can build a 17" laptop only being 1" thick and less than 7lbs. If only i liked macs...

i dont really know much about the 1000, but $500 for a laptop is ridiculously cheap.
Celerons are crap, but if you are going to use it for minimal things, it should be alright.
I like 15" screens, I think it's a worthwhile...
it's remarkably light for it's size. i dont know many people that would call 7 lbs remarkably light.
i'm not bashing the 8600, it's great. it's just not tiny. You're right, it's not that big for a widescreen...but it is a widescreen....
