UPDATE: I figured it out. Every time mail came in, the computer beeped. It's because for some reason my new mail notification sound was disabled.

Thanks. Turned beep off. chevy, the beeps are occuring because of some system alert. Instead of using the speakers to play the system error sound, it uses the comp speakers.
