I say if you only use your notebook speakers, don't bother. I have a creative sound system so I pretty much had to get it or else I can't get surround sound. The sound quality is phenominal.

How do you know if you have NV1 or NV2?

I set mine at 6X multiplier for when running on battery and 15X for when running on AC. You don't have to worry about that other stuff. Also, I'm not too sure about the ATI question.
