I've got the ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0 and it is really good. Some bugs and tends to slow things down somewhat but I am really please with the quality of it, the quality of the picture and the features on it.
Mine had one dead pixel at the bottom in the tool bar area. I would have exchanged it for another but BB had no more in stock at the time. I have since learned to live with it and only notice it on boot up now...

I had the same thing a few months ago. My ISP would start up without prompting, usually in the middle of a good match of Call of Duty. Bah. I had to reload my whole dang OS, at which point I switched to Linux.
Nope...no firewire.
Try a notebook cooler pad - can order them from New Egg or even get them from Best Buy/Circuit City/Etc....it should keep your lappie nice and cool enough that you'll see a difference.
This happens on occasion with me too though not as often as I had experienced on other laptops. It does drive me crazy though and I think that the unit itself is just going to start spinning wildly across the desk and am tempted to strap...
