Have you added any memory upgrades? If so, remove them and try again. Otherwise it sounds as though the integrated memory module is corrupt and you will need to have the main board serviced.
I would use your recovery disc in Windows and go to reinstall factory drivers and programs. Then select the touchpad .exe and reinstall it then reboot.

Try removing battery power and ac power for several minutes and then re-install battery and apply ac power. Also make sure that Bios is current.
This error is normal when the laptop is unable to recognize the hard disk or if there is no OS to boot to. I suggest installing the new hard disk and booting up to a windows install cd, load the OS, then try booting to the hard disk again.
