The 6400 card is almost certainly not the same form factor as the 9400 card. The two laptops have different cooling solutions, different sizes, different mobos, etc.
I'm pretty sure the supported resolutions are a function of the firmware on the video card. There are software descalers, but I've never heard of one at the driver level. Here are the resolutions ATI says they support for the...
The LCD is just a dumb array of pixels. It has a fixed number of little lights that it can light up. That's all it knows how to do. The video card says, "Huh? You want 1400x1050? That means I need to light up every 1.37...
Well, I'm not sure what the point is of speculating one way or the other. But I would like to get my hands on a desktop mobo that supports Core Duo. I have no doubt that these pups can handle an 800MHz FSB and just OC like mad. ...
It's not the LCD, it's your ATI card. The card is responsible for rescaling whatever resolution you request to the native resolution of the LCD. Nvidia doesn't seem to have any problem doing this.
Did you buy MCE2005? AFAIK, the only program Dell gives you that works with the USB Tuner is Media Center.

Pinouts for Yonah are available here: http://www.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/309221.htm I can't think of any reason for Intel to change the socket when the only external change is the FSB speed. Edit: looking at the pinouts,...
Thanks. Looks about the same -- we're both running at about 75% bandwidth efficiency. So, it looks like the higher frequency doesn't help, but also the extra wait state doesn't hurt. I wonder if there's any way to get better than...
