Look for some very fine steel wool at your local supermarket. Use a few drops of acetate (from a hardware) and slowly rub the area in a light circular motion.
Finish off with a soft, clean cotton cloth.

Try changing back the resolution to the default.
- Right click on the desktop.
- Select properties
- Select Settings -> Advanced
