You'll be fine, I ran mine like that for months. The absence of the ground prong also eliminates hum/buzz when connecting the XPS headphone socket to a sound system.
I think folam3 might be experiencing the missing Microphone playback flag, so your microphone does actually work when used by an application, but you just can't hear it working through your own speakers (sometimes causing feedback.)...
sp1 runs fine for me also.
