yeah its loud. mine actually seems louder than my g5 desktop, though it may be just because the fans on the 9860 produce a higher pitched tone.

My fans come on within a few minutes as well, but it rarely exceeds 55ºC even with heavy usage. Light usage and idling come in around 43 or 44ºC. I do keep the back of the machine propped up about 2 centimeters and keep the card reader...
btw it looks like new omega drivers based on cat 5.1 are due out today. they're not uploaded yet but omega posted that they are on the way.
