I've never seen that warning from a powered hub. How much power does the hub supply? How many devices do you have plugged in? What devices do you have plugged in?? If you unplug one device, do you still get the same message?
Every HDD i've heard ticking differently that it always has has eventually gone bad. I've seen them take 5 min or 2 months to go bad.
I have a Zero Shock sleeve, and I just bought an Ogio Jackpack laptop messenger bag. The zeroshock sleeve fits really snug with the 8 cell battery installed, but it does fit. Here are pics of the Ogio I just bought.
also, you might try resetting the bios clock to totally reset the mainboard. See if it makes a difference.
sounds like a mobo issue to me. Since the drive works via usb conversion, but hangs when in the laptop, I guess the hardware reader is the problem....new mobo probably.
