Okay, if not in bios, how do I adjust the ram timings?

I am using SuSE 8.1 and the generic vesa drivers...tried a couple, and I am stuck at a resoulution of 800x600. Anyone know of any tricks that I can do to get me to at least 1024x768 if not higher. Thanks Seibol
