Personally, I would get home and the DVD+/-R because I too have worked on both XP pro and home and I can't really notice differences unless I go out of my way to look for them.

Did you try turning up the volume on your speakers and playing some music? Works for me, especially when I have a lan at my house and 8 or 9 computers have their fans blowing at full speed.
