Memory isn't an issue. I got 2900 in 3d05 with 256MB and a 2.0Ghz. I'd check your temps to make sure it isn't overheating while running 3d05.

The Sager is supposed to receive the 6800 Ultra so I would go with it when it gets it. It's not that far behind even without it as they have DDR3 now. Battery life and weight are the major reasons to go XPS2. If they are not...
