Unless they are replacing the motherboard with one that is almost identical they may have to reinstall Windows... This can be done without wiping the HDD but they most likely going to have to "touch them" in order to get you...

Not meaning to sound unsympathetic and all but, any major upgrades to a notebook of the caliber of a 98xx should have been expected to be expensive. How many notebooks out there are upgradable at all??? Yes, you have to purchase a new MB...

I had the same problem when installing RC2, it immediately BSOD on reboot. However, I didn't have any problems installing the drivers from the floppy.

That's what I thought... Just wondering

Now the question is do they have one for SATA RAID drives???

There is an even newer update out they all seem to just crash the system
