I really don't believe that is the entire problem, possibly part of it. I had 512 in mine for 2 years and only had slow downs and stuttering during heavy gaming. I put 2 gigs of Centon (2x1gig, pc3200) as have many others and works...
Yep, worked like a charm. Did the other slot as well so I have 2gigs. Followed the guide here for the internal slot. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, great guide only took about 15 minutes. Thanks to all. Now time to trash...
Went to CompUsa and could not pass the deal. $169 minus $30 intstant, $45 mail in and another $30 mail in. Install was easy as I just put it in the accessible slot now running with 1.25 gigs at 166 speed. May try later and open her up...

Use the A64 Tweaker program does work pretty well. I run mine under the 183 FSB and it took my Sandr Bench mark from 23xx to 26xx not too bad. M6811 / 512 PC2700 / 80 gig hdd / 15.4 Widescreen
