The M4400 is a no brainer for architectural work if the software uses the openGL api. Personally can't think of one area the XPS16 surpasses the M4400 except for price,or you like the same horizontal pixel count and less...

I agree with the other's,if you can't work out what the problem is by the message on the blue screen,reformat,dell is using pile's of buggy software even on the business model's these day's and they're supposed to be bloatware free...
To answer your question's in order. 1.yes it does work [lenovo] yes it goes where the optical drive is....see pic's 2.Yes you can 3.buy one without and then order from spare part's Thinkpad doesn't have the dell locking...
Have only ever used one FireGL and it gave a lot more stabilty problem's than any of the Quadro's I've used....in which problem's have been very rare,even with a multitude of different driver's usually. I guess this is why nvidia have...
