Scrape the dots till they are shiny. Then put a SMALL amount of conductive paint on there. Less is more! It just needs to join the two dots.

EBay is usually a good gauge on the going price. $1000 seems lowball to me. It depends on if it's UXGA, what size hard drive, and other things.
