Jim, My specs are almost identical, but I can't function withiut windows. I've been trying to empty my 8890 so I could try ghosting the raid drives. I don't know if it would work, but it would save lots of time on a windows/software...
Follow up woe. I tried to install Suse v9.1 and got an interesting message. A popup dialog box informing me that my D800P (Sager 8890 - which it correctly identified) contained a Promise "Software" raid controller. It went on...
I only ran it with the tradition IDE controller a couple weeks, and it drove me crazy not to use the RAID, because it would have faster transfer rates, and sustained reads and writes. So I overcame my fear of raid and flipped the...

I did dl the latest driver, but ran update a few too many times. It was successful until I added the kernal update, then I got the VFS can't find root kernal panic message again. I haven't had time to start from scratch again. Now..Suse...
migjam, I also found out that running the suse update screws up my raid array all over again. I get the VFS can not find root crap. So, no updates either.
Well, installed with no apci and is worked great - right up until I tried ATI's graphics driver....now it's borked again. Not too happy about no 3D support, and I think the first install may have gotten messed up during the graphics...
